Vizag beach Part I
Visakhapatnam, or Vizag as it was often called, is the true spot where one can find the beauty of Andhra. Lapped by the Bay of Bengal, on the eastern part of Andhra Pradesh lies the beach city, Vishakapatnam. This city has beautiful hill ranges caves,valleys,temples, lakes and cool beaches.
The district has many tourism spots that will definitely be exciting, enriching and refreshing experience. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Asia. It has many tourism spots that represent the Culture and Heritage of the true India. No one should miss to see the Cultural constructions built during the age of kings who ruled this region.
Araku Valley
At a distance of 100 KM from Vizag, Araku valley is a major attraction for tourist visiting Visakhapatnam. You can go for a one day trip or can stay two or three nights at Araku.The best way is to travel by train from Visakhapatnam to Araku and then returning by road. While returning you can visit famous Borra caves.
Kailasagiri
is the number one picnic spot in Vizag. Lot entertainment and well maintained places available at this hill top. Cable car and Toy train facility available for kids. Rama Krishna Beach:
The Rama Krishna Beach, or RK Beach as it is commonly called, is one of the best tourist spot in Vizag. The beaches of Vizag enthrall the tourists and the clean beaches attract tourists in great numbers. Swimming, sun bathing, playing the beach volleyball or simply sitting under the cool shade of a tree and reading a book are the favorite pastime of many. R.K.Beach is a great picnic spot to spend time with your loved ones. Rama Krishna beach is a favorite beach resort for tourists visiting Vishakhapatnam. Both the Ramakrishna beach presents a picturesque and beautiful scenic beauty. It is Vizag's favorite evening sojourn. Rishikonda
8 km from Vizag - is ideal for swimmers, water skiers, and wind surfers. It is a golden, unspoilt beach, washed by the sun-warmed sea .Tourists can enjoy a holiday in picturesque settings. There is a PUNNAMI Resort and restaurant of APTDC- Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation at the top of a hill near this beach. Booking can be done from the office of APTDC. On the way to Rishikonda one can see many resorts and hotels by the side of the sea.
Some unfortunate incidents happened recently as some students of Gitam college drowned while swimming here. Take professional help or ask local police for more information before entering into the water.
Simhachalam Temple
Simhachalam temple is located within the city limit but at a corner of Visakhapatnam. It is one hour drive from city centers of Vizag. Temple is located at the top of a hill and wide road is there for driving up to the temple. Bus service is available from foot of the hill to the temple premises. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park - Zoo - 9 AM to 5 PM( Monday Holiday):
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located in Vishakhapatnam amidst the scenic eastern ghats of India.It is situated in the scenic eastern ghats with its natural settings. The zoo is flanked by hills on either side and attracts many visitors from all over the country. Zoo is 4 Km before Rishikonda beach, it is close on Monday, If you are not taking your vehicle inside then prepare for a walk for 2 KM in one side. Inside drinking water and canteen facilities are available. There is a toy train also. The main gate of the zoo is at NH 5 and other end is at beach road side. Zoo time is from 9 AM to 5 PM. Adults Rs 15, Child Rs 5, Camera Rs 15 and Video Camera Rs 100. A vehicle with five persons can be taken inside for a fee of Rs 200. About 25-km from Vishakhapatnam is beautiful beach of Bheemunipatnam popular as 'Bheemili' .This beach is located at the mouth of the river Gosthani.The beach is very safe for swimmers. It is also the site of the ruins of the east coast's oldest Dutch settlement (17th century). The drive from Visakhapatnam to Bheemili is exhilarating. The cemetery situated in the west of the town speaks of the Dutch who gave their lives here. The unique feature of the cemetery is the depiction of the cause of the death on the grave enlivens the past.

VUDA Park
VUDA Park, also called Taraka Rama Park was named after former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N T Rama Rao. The Park is developed by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) near the Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam. VUDA Park is one of the most attractive spots in Visakhapatnam. Musical Fountain, Boating, Skating Rink, Horse and Camel Riding. This park is a heavy crowd puller and has a dancing musical fountain. It is the ideal place for all to spend evenings and leisure times on seashore with eye catching and eco-rich surroundings. With a green playfield, artificial caves, beautiful long lawns, flower gardens, and a children's park, boating and swimming facilities makes this park a good place to spend time.The Entrance Plaza extends makes the visitors to have memorable moments of joy. Every day thousands of people visit the VUDA Park. It is another landmark in the tourism chapters of Visakhapatnam. The first of its kind in the whole south Asia.INS Kurusura Submarine.
The Submarine Museum - Kurusura being set up at the RamaKrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam has a specialty which is the first one of its kind in this subcontinent. INS Kusura is a Russian built submarine. It was built on Dec 18th 1969 and began its journey on Feb 20, 1970 via the Baltic Sea and reached Visakhapatnam on the 11th of May, 1970. Since then INS Kusura was being used by the Indian Defence. The Navy developed it as a War-Memorial with a project cost of Rs.5.5 Crores. The length of Submarine is 91.3 Mtrs. while the breadth is 8.00 mtrs. This is the first of its kind in Asia and second in the world.
There are display boards giving all the details of the submarine and life inside submarine.
A submarine can stay inside water for maximum period of 48 hours and return to surface to recharge its batteries. While inside the water it operates by the electric batteries only.
This submarine museum located in the beach road is one of the main tourist spots of Visakhapatnam. Museum Opens at 2 PM till 8.30 PM from Tuesday to Saturday. On Sunday it opens at 10 AM to 12.30 PM and again from 2 PM to 8.30 PM. Monday is a holiday for the museum.

You will be taken inside the museum in batches and will be explained in Telugu and Hindi as per the requirements. Visitors will enter from one end of the museum and will be coming out from another end. For the comfort of the tourist the museum is air-conditioned. Outside the museum there are various equipments used in submarine are in display. There are Indicator Boy , Torpedo , Battery cell , diesel lub oil cooler, 150 mm dia valve , TFCS – Leningrad, High pressure air bottle on display.
The museum has been established with the aim of show causing the glory of submarine arm and presenting every one a glimpse of the life inside submarine and the hardship encountered by the submarine at sea.
Visakha Museum at Beach road
This maritime museum exhibits weapons used by Indian Navy in previous wars and models of ship and submarines depicting the heroic actions and achievements.There is one more building in the same complex displaying old artifacts, paintings models of tribal women , rural lifestyle of the locals etc. There are also suits of fire fighters, submariners etc. Some antiques associated with various events of Visakhapatnam city are displayed here.
It will take minimum half hour to visit this museum.
The entrance fee for adults is 5/-& children between 5 to 12 is 2/-. The museum functions from 11am to 7pm from Tuesday to Friday .Saturday & Sunday 12 noon to 8pm.
Dolphin's Nose:
Requires at least 3-4 hours to visit this place. Located at a distance of 20-25 Kms from Vizag city, is a popular picnic spot and famous tourist destination. A lighthouse , temples, masjid and a church can be visited. Spectacular view of Bay of Bengal can be witnessed. Visiting hours of the lighthouse is 3 PM to 5 PM.Yarada Beach:
One of the finest and safest beach available in India. This is nearer to the Dolphin nose. Sunrise view in this beach is unforgettable. APTDC resorts are also available (confirm before booking) but people hardly stay there.

Buddhist Heritage places in and around Vizag
There are several Buddhist complexes in around Vizag. The well known are, Bojjana Konda, situated nearer to Anakapalle nearly 45 Kms from Vizag. Thotla Konda and Bhavi Konda are nearer to Rishikonda beach of Visakhapatnam. These places have the ruins of the then used items by Buddhists.Erra matti Dibbalu (Red sand Hills)
This place is famous because of the importance it has got as a shooting place for movie makers. The hills are with red soils and nearer to the Bay of Bengal. A further journey from Rishikonda beach towards Bheemunipatnam takes you to this scenic place. It has got thick forest inside but take care of yourself as nobody dares to enter inside this place. From Vizag you can travel to Jagdalpur by road or by train to spend weekend and return. Check the road trip details Vizag to Jagdalpur. On the way by road can visit some scenic places in Orissa. You can travel in night also by road so you can reach morning at Jagdalpur and return next day. By train you can travel full day starting from 6.50 AM and reach Jagdalpur in evening by KK-line ( through Araku ). 2nd day spend full day covering both waterfalls and return in next day. One full day minimum is required to cover both waterfalls at Jagdalpur. There are night service buses available in both ways.Jagdalpur by train and bus ( quick trip )
If you are not hiring any private vehicle then travel by train through Araku KK line and reach Jagdalpur in evening. On the way you can enjoy the beauty of Araku valley. Stay that day night at Jagdalpur. Next day visit both waterfalls and catch a night bus from Jagdalpur, early morning you will reach Vizag.
