Vijayanagaram is a business town of Andhra Pradesh. Located at a distance of 40 KM from Visakhapatnam this town is situated towards north side of Andhra Pradesh. Vijayanagaram is the district headquarter and is a business town catering to the needs of rural areas of surrounding villages. Mainly economy of the area depends on agriculture and few medium size industries are located near to Vijayanagaram.

Vijayanagaram Palace
Located at the center of the city this palace is now used by many educational institutes. There is a women college and different other colleges are operating from the same campus. Like any other fort there is a huge fort wall surrounds the palace. Inside the main entrance there is a statue of Dr P.V.G Raju D.Litt, Raja sheb of Vizianagaram. There is no entrance fee or any other restriction as this complex is used as public place. The big gate and inside old buildings give a glimpse of history associated with this palace.
Clock tower or Ganta Stambham
Like any other old city there is a clock tower or Ganta Stambham located at a distance of 1 KM from the fort area. This is also a center place of the city. This is a busy market area now. Near to the clock tower there is a cemetery of past kings of Vijayanagaram empire. Full size Bronze statues of the kings are kept here.
You can move around the city within two hours covering fort and clock tower and return to your hotel. Several hotels are there in Balaji Road area.
Annual festival of Sirimanu Utsavam of Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru celebrated during October end. During this festival a 55 foot long Sirimanu ( ceremonial pole) mounted on a cart being pulled by volunteers. The chief priest of the temple seat on a specially made well decorated chair ( aasanam) kept at the top of the pole.
Indian Railway
Vijayanagaram railway station ( code : VZM ) is located in the main railway line connecting Howrah and Chennai. If you are travelling from North side or coming from Bhubaneswar – Howrah side then this station comes before Visakhapatnam and Visakhapatnam ( Vizag ) will take one hour from here. Some super fast trains do not have stop at Vijayanagaram. From here one more branch line goes towards Rayagada ( RGDA), Titlagarh, and joines main Howrah – Mumbai line at Jharsuguda.
Railway station , AP RTC bus stop and main market all are located close to each other inside Vijayanagaram.

From here bus services available to different part of AP and southern Orissa. Vijayanagaram town is connected by a By-pass road to NH 5 ( nearly 17 KM distance ) . NH 5 connects Kolkata and Chennai. Buses towards Sunabeda , Koraput, Jeypore ( all in Orissa state) and Jagdalpur ( Chhattisgarh state) starts from Visakhapatnam and passes through Vijayanagaram ( NH 43 ).
