Manali is located at an altitude of 1829 Mtrs which is one of the popular hill station of Himalayan range in Himachal Pradesh. Experiencing the view of hill stations surrounding Manali is a marvelous experience. Some of the Himalayan peaks which can be seen surrounding Manali are, Hanuman Tibba, 7 sister peak, Friendship peak, Patalsu peak, Ladakhi peak, Manali peak.
Rohtang Pass
Rohtang pass is the main attraction of Manali and it is accessible during May - October months. The area is Popular for snow and natural beauty.
Hadimba Temple
An ancient temple of goddess Hidimba is surrounded by tall pine trees with a track for nature walk
Solang Valley
Popular for cable car, Paragliding, horse riding, trekking and skiing ( in winter ). This green valley is located at a distance of 12 KM from Manali.
Honeymoon destination
Manali is one of the best honeymoon destinations of India. Couples can enjoy their time at Manali throughout the year. If you wish to move around and fond of sports, make your visit during March end to May end. People who wish to stay only at Manali can plan during any season provided the bus service is available from Delhi to Manali.
Rohtang Pass road is closed for tourist. Expected to open in May 2020. Manali - Leh road is closed.
Manali is located at northern end of Kullu valley. With the help of Lord Ganesha Rishi Ved Vyas wrote the epic Mahabharata at the source of the Beas. This river Beas originates from Manali.
BEST TIME TO VISIT MANALI
Tourists visit Kullu Manali throughout the year. During Summer months maximum tourists visit Manali because of school holidays. But this is not the best season to visit Manali. One has to select the period when Rohtang opens for tourists. At the same time, if it is too late, there will not be snow at the peak.
Weather in Manali
Maximum temperature goes up to 22 degree and may reach 25 degree during summer months ( May - June - July ). Minimum temperature remains around 15 degree. No need of any woollen dress in summer months. But these are required at Rohtang .
Snow dresses are available for rent on the way to Rohtang.
Don't expect any trace of snow at Manali during summer seasons, however you will get plenty of snow on the way to Rohtang pass and at Rohtang.
Heavy woollen dress is required during winter months.
How to reach Manali
- Well connected by road to Chandigarh 290 KM, Kalka 280 KM, Shimla 260 KM
- Nearest airport Bhunter ( 52 KM ), Chandigarh , Shimla, Delhi
- Nearest Rail station Chandigarh, Kalka, Delhi , Shimla
Manali is the last town after Kullu (Kullu is the district head quarters of Himachal Pradesh). Manali is the gateway to Lahaul Spiti which is famous for Himalayan valleys. Manali is blessed with rivers (mainly the giant river, Beas) almost surrounding from all the places, snow covered peaks everywhere. It almost looks like a sacred place situated with nature blessing. Pir Panjal range of Himalayan snow peak covering mountains invite all as they reach Manali.
Manali Locals
For local people, the apple season is during August and September. Many of them get engaged in tourist business in rest of the time, especially from April to October which is the main visiting period for Himachal pradesh places.Manali attracts all kind of people. Starting from kids of 2-3 years to people aged more than 70 years. There is everything for all kind of age groups in and around Manali. For meditation, for adventure sports like white water rafting, trekking, para gliding, zorbing, skiing, horse riding etc... Manali will not disappoint anybody. Tourist who just want to visit and relax, Manali offers plenty of such places.
Trekking at Manali
Manali opens up many opportunities for not only nature lovers, but also for people who are fond of adventure sports. There are many adventurous sports possible in and around Manali. Manali is a popular destination for many trekkers. Chandratal is one of the famous trekking destination. There are countless trekking destinations in and around Manali. One need to enquire at local offices to know whether particular trekking is opened for expedition or not. Some destinations need permissions from Government officials. Rohtang pass itself is a trekking destination one can opt to enjoy the nature.
Youth Hostel Association of India organizes several Himalayan trekking, family camping, nature study programs near Manali and Kullu. Contact Youth Hostel for their different trekking programs.
Where to stay in Manali
There are plenty of hotels, resorts available at Manali and you must stay minimum two days to cover all the important tourist places. Ask your travel agent to book a hotel by the side of river Beas. Many hotels are available in New Manali area. If you want to avoid the busy town area then there are many beautiful resorts available outside the main town by the side of the river.
Many hotels allow online booking. Summer season (April to June) is the peak tourist season for Manali so it is advisable to book your hotels in advance if you wish to visit Manali during this period.
Shopping at The Mall
The main market place is known as The Mall and you can spend your evening after visiting tourist places around this small town. You can get all type of Indian food in this market place. The population of Manali is a mix of Kullus, Ladakhis, Tibetans, Kashmirs and Nepalis so the shops on the Mall sells handicrafts made by these communities mostly woolen. On the way to Manali from Kullu there is a cooperative shop selling various types of woolen materials at very attractive price, this shop is known as Kullu shawl factory. Kullu shawls and Kashimirs salwar-kameez materials are one of the popular item of this area. Shops selling Tibetan antiques are interesting and popular among foreign tourists.
Tibetan Monastery
This Monastery is very nearer to Manali the Mall.
This monastery houses the giant statue of Gautam Buddha. Photography is allowed inside the premises on a nominal charge of INR 5. Traditional dresses of Himachal Pradesh (for both men and women) are available outside the monastery. One can wear and have photographs which lasts for their memory in the rest of their life.
Tourist information
To help the tourists, Himachal tourism administration has fixed the rates for some items which are used in Rohtang and Solang valley on rental basis. Below are the details1. Warm coat, snow shoes and stick (set) --> INR 100 per person per day
2. Skiing dress --> INR 150 per person per day
3. Ski dress with Ski pair --> INR 350 per person per day
4. Ski dress, Ski pair with guide --> INR 500
5. Snow scooter joy riding --> 5 to 10 mnts INR 500, 10 to 20 mnts INR 1000, 20 to 30 mins INR 1500
6. Horse riding --> INR 200 per person for half an hour

| Road is the only way to travel to Manali from Shimla. Public transport is available. You can hire vehicle from Shimla. You can continue to use same vehicle for your local trips at Manali also. However my personal preference is to use a local cab if possible. If you have plan to move out then visit Kullu shawl factory. You will get variety of woolen dresses at an attractive price. At Manali also you can get all these. You can bargain at shops and I don’t think you will face any problem at shops. I don’t have any bad experience in my two trips to Manali. | |

| Yes, you can definately get a vehicle from kalka to visit all the places you wish to. I reckon you hire a MUV say Tavera, Sumo, Qualis etc. They charge around Rs. 8.30 - 9.30 per km subject to the average minimum of 200 kms per day that means you will be required to pay for 200 kms per day on an average whether you travel that much or not. So more or less avg per day cost comes to around Rs. 2000.00 Mandi is around 185 kms from Kalka. Kullu is further 70 kms ahead. And Manali is 40 kms from Kullu. Two beautiful places not to be missed near Mnadi are Rewalsar and Prashar Lake. | |
