Bhaja Caves

Bhaja caves is located at Bhaja (near Lonavala), Pune of Maharashtra in India. There are nearly 20 caves here. The special feature of this caves is that there are more than one Stupa. The design of the caves is almost similar to Karla caves which is very nearer (8-9 Kms). There are sculptures related to Buddha on the walls. There is very little space in front of the caves. There is a small water falls beside the Bhaja caves but the approach is difficult.
People have to climb nearly 600-700mtrs. Well laid steps are available. Nearer to the caves, there is a small office (newly constructed) where entry fee has to be paid.

INR 15 for Indians
INR 200 for foreign nationals
INR 25 for Video cameras. Videos are to be used only for non commercial purpose.

Tourists can stay here for 20-30 minutes. Caves can also be seen from the front hill which is also on the way to Lohaghad fort. Bhaja caves visit can be planned during Lonavala trip along with Karla caves.
Bhaja caves are declared National Monuments by Archeological survey of India.
How to reach Bhaja Caves
Bhaja caves is 60Kms from Pune railway station. On the Mumbai Pune express way take left diversion ( while coming from Pune side ) at Malavli. Caves is just 4Kms from here. Tourists have to cross Mumbai-Pune railway track and Express highway. The caves are located over the hill. Vehicles can be parked at this foothill. There is no proper parking place.
Lonavala to Bhaja Caves is 13 KM
Pune to Bhaja Caves is 60 KM
Mumbai to Bhaja Caves is 90 KM
Accommodation
There is no accommodation available near Bhaja caves. Tourist visit this place in day time and return to Lonavala or Pune.
Taxi to Bhaja Caves
You can hire a taxi from Lonavala or from Pune. Along with Bhaja caves other nearby caves and forts can be visited during half day tour program.
