Pelling to Gangtok & NJP

Gangtok townPelling at an altitude of 6100ft is located at a distance of 120 Kms from Gangtok and KM from NJP. This small hill station in west Sikkim is relatively new settlements and is at a distance of 10 KM from Gezing ( Gyalshing ) the headquarter of west Sikkim. Gezing is the entry point for Pelling.

Gangtok to Pelling

. From Gangtok to Pelling a distance of 120 KM can be covered in 5 to 6 hours drive. You can start from Gangtok then via Ranipool on NH 31A you will reach Singtam. From here you have to take right turn. The straight road goes towards Rangpo check post. From Singtam after 18 KM you will reach Tarku. From Taraku if you want to drive towards south Sikkim then you can take a left turn to Temi and Damthang. From Taraku to move towards Pelling you need to go Rabangla ( 20 KM from Taraku) then Legship and then Geyzing. Before entering inside Geyzing market you need to take a left turn towards Pelling.


If you plan to visit Namchi ( South Sikkim ) then on the way to Pelling you can take a diversion at Tarku towards Temi, Damthang and visit Namchi the headquarter of south district. Namchi is famous for the holy statue of Guru Padmasambhavathe. Namchi you can move towards Reshi , Legship and Geyzing and then to Pelling.

Pelling to NJP ( New Jalpaigudi ) via Mali check post

Total distance up to NJP railway station will be 143KM. It is almost same distance up to Bagdogra airport. From Pelling it is 6 to 7 hours journey to NJP ( New Jalpaiguri ). On the way after crossing Pelling town you can visit Pemayangtse Monastery and Rabdentse Ruins. The road condition on this part of Sikkim is good. Just after Pelling you will reach Gezing ( Gyalshing ). You need not enter into Gezing market and take a right turn towards Legship, Reshi and Jorethang.

Legship

After 24 KM from Pelling you will reach Legship, here you can break for tea and visit the temple of Kitetshwar Mahadev dedicated to Lord Shiva across the river Rangit. Every year Bada Chaturdasi festival is celebrated in the month of November.

Reshi

At a distance of 9 KM from Legship this a small town. After 4 KM from Reshi you will get a Y junction, towards your left ( down road ) will take you to Namchi ( 27 KM ) and straight road to Jorethang.

Jorethang

Rafting on Teesta river From Pelling Jorethang is 51 KM. Jorethang is the major town on this way and you can get all facilities here. West Bengal road permit required for the Sikkim vehicles can be collected from here after paying the tax. Before entering to Jorethang you will cross Akar bridge. Just after crossing Akar Bridge towards your left side road will take you to Namchi ( 20 KM ) and Rabongla ( 46 KM ), the main right side road will enter into Jorethang town and will take you to Siliguri or NJP ( 85 KM ). From here Kalimpong is 47 KM and Darjeeling is 72 KM ( Not in same way to NJP )

After Jorethang you will move towards Mali the boarder check post between Sikkim state and West Bengal state. Malli is 26 KM from Jorethang and by crossing Mali bridge over Tista river you will enter into West Bengal and join NH 31A. After the bridge on your left side road will be towards Gangtok and right side road passing below the bridge will take you to NJP.
