This is one of the old city of Rajasthan where the local king presence is still can be felt. Son of Rao Jodha , Rao Bika established his kingdom and this city at Rati Ghati ( at present outskirt of the city ). In the year 1589 with the construction of Junagarh fort Bikaner city was developed around this.
Unlike Havelies of Jaisalmer here almost all havelies are in locked condition and you can view the outside or front side only. You can share an Auto ( Local cab ) with other passengers to reach Jain temple from main city center or from Junagarh fort area.
If you are at Bikaner then never miss a visit to Bhanda Shaha Jain temple and Laxminath temple ( both side by side ) . The road to this temple passes through many old Havelies and you can see these traditional houses in red standstone having many Jali windows .
The road also passes through narrow lanes and very old houses giving an idea to the tourist that this is an old city still have its royal touch of Maharajas and the old traditions of fort and havelies.
This Jain temple was constructed by a rich business man Bhandasa Oswal in the year 1468 AD, after his death his daughter completed this in the year 1514. During the foundation of the temple Ghee ( liquid butter ) was used instead of water. This temple is dedicated to Sumtinath Ji, the fifth Tirthankar of Jain.
