Wild life of Karnataka

Tigers
For those who want to experience the wild life, Karnataka won't disappoint in any way. The rich vegetation, flora fauna, sanctuaries make people from hobbiest to professionals an interesting yet enchanting survey in these places. These sanctuaries are mainly spread at south and western region of Karnataka comprising the districts of Mysore, Mandya, Madikeri, Chamarajnagar and Bangalore at South and Shimoga, North Karnataka, Chikmagalore at West. Total 22 percent of Karnataka state is covered with forest. Highest population of Tigers is also found here.

Bandipur

Bandipur National Partk is located on the way to Ooty from Mysore . This is situated in Chamarajnagar district near Gundlupet at the foothills of Nilgiris.
Bandipur is the centre point for Project Tiger in India. There is considerable increase in the population of Tigers after this project. The roads inside the forest are well laid and maintained. Commonly seen animals are Wild dog (dhole, giant squirrel, Peafowl, deers etc... Sandal wood, Teak, rose wood can also be seen here. Elephant safari is available to have the feel of the jungle life. Normal visiting time is during April to October.
Visitors travelling from Bangalore, have to reach Mysore. Continue the journey towards Gundlupet on Mysore - Ooty road and proceed further to reach Bandipur after Gundlupet. The Total distance from Bangalore is 220Kms. From Mysore Bandipur is only 80Kms. Both rail and bus transport available between Mysore and Bangalore. From Mysore to Bandipur, only Bus facility can be availed. Narrow gauge rail transportation is available between Mysore and Nanjangud . People can visit Nanjangud which is on the way and famous for Nanjundeswara temple.
Forest guest house available ranging from INR 150 to 600 for Indians and from INR 300 to 1200 for foreigners. Safari by Van costs INR 15 per person and Elephant ride is INR 75 per person (4 people in one elephant). Visiting hours is from 6.00am to 9.00am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm. Entry fee is INR 10 for Indiana and INR 150 for foreigners. Food is available in the guest house.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

This area is also called Muthodi forest, one of the fascinating sanctuaries, is spread over both Shimoga and Chikmagalur district. The total forest area is nearly 490 Sq.Kms. This forest area is also an adventurous spot with real wild life excitement. Kindfisher, robin, drongo, flying fox, barking deer, Indian Gaur are commonly seen here.
Travellers have to come to Chikmagalore from Bangalore (282Kms). Muthodi is only 35Kms from Chikmagalur through Mallandur. Visiting period is during November to March. Forest visiting time is from 6.00am to 9.00am and 4.00pm to 6.30pm. Park entry fee is INR 5 for Indians and INR 100 for Foreigners. One hour safari by van is available. The safari cost is INR 10. Accomodation facility (double room and dormitorywith beds) is available ranging from INR 100 to 200 for Indians and INR 500 for foreigners.

Bheemeshwari
Bheemeshwari (Cauveri Fishing camp) is at a distance of 90Kms from Bangalore via kanakapura. There are many wild animals which can be seen and famous for Masheer fish.

B.R.Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Also called Biligiri Rangana Hills (Betta) is located in K.Gudi of Chamarajnagar district. This place is on the hill area which also constitures Malai Mahadeshwara hills (M.M.Hills).

The hill is located at 5090 ft hight. Tigers, gaur, chital, bears, elephants, sambar are very common in this forest. The place is very peaceful and calm. The local tribes are called Soligas. An information centre called Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra is situated for tribes and Biodiversity in this region. Dodda Sampige ( The great Champak tree) which is nearly 2000 years old can be seen here.
Normal time to visit is from September to May. Hill resorts are available to stay.

Dandeli Kali Wild life Sanctuary park

The distance between Dandeli from Bangalore is 480Kms. The way to Dandeli from Bangalore is through Dharwad. From Dharvad it is only 57Kms and from Hubballi it is 75Kms. Travellers can even reach Dandeli from West coast side through Karwar. From Karwar, Dandeli is only 117Kms. From Goa Dandeli is only 125Kms. Tourists travelling from North and visiting Goa can plan their trip in Dandeli nature camp.
The forest area is spread around the river Kali. The wilderness camp leads to the forest where one can trek and raft in the natural trails. Crocodiles, giant wood spiders and variety of butterflies can be seen here. Kulgi nature camp is situated here and the nearest town is Haliyal.

I would like to book a cottage in Bandipur forest guest house for the date from 12-1-2011 to 13-1-2011. I am travelling with my family consisting of 8 members (4 adults and 4 children).I would like to know the procedure of booking a cottage and its tariff.
