At a distance of 60 KM from Srinagar this is Asias largest fresh water lake. Covered in an area of 130 sq KM this lake provides flood protection to entire Kashmir valley. This lake supports rich bio diversity. Wullar lake supports livehood of people through fish & aquatic vegetation.
There is a garden at the top of a hill by the side of the lake. Tourist can get a full view of the lake from this hill top park. There is an entry fee of Rs 10 per head and Rs 5 for kids below 12. The garden is well maintained and toilet facility is available inside the park.
Unfortunately less tourist visit this lake and there is no boating facility available. There is no way available to reach the bank of the lake but the view of the lake from the hill top is excellent. There are no restaurant or hotel available close to the lake. However there are plenty of restaurants available throughout the way upto the lake. Usually tourist visit this lake for a half day trip and on return they can visit Mansbal lake and Khir Bhavani temple.
Manasbal lake is 19 KM from Wular lake.
It will take two hours to reach Wullar lake from Srinagar. At HMT junction you will take right turn and straight road will go to Gulmarg. Jhelam river will be at your right and soon after crossing the river you have to take left turn. Right side road will take you to Sonmarg.
On the way at Sofapora right side road will go to Mansabal lake and straight road to Wullar lake.
