Information on package
So many one day trip packages available at Ooty for site visit. Ooty to Coonoor site seeing and
visiting Dodda Betta is one of the famous tourist listing. The trip covers the major valley
view points located near Coonoor, huge tea plantations and the peakest point of South India.
The trip also includes lake and botanical garden in Ooty. he entire trip is charged at INR 125 per seat if booked in group. For individual vehicle
booking on one family basis, the charge would vary from INR 1500 to 2500 depending upon the
places tourists wish to visit.
Starting at Ooty
The trip starts at 10.00am in Ooty and one hour break at Ooty lake. Visitors can enjoy various
games and places available around the lake. The journey to Coonoor starts at 11.00am by road.
The distances between Ooty and Coonoor by bus is 20Kms. People can also travel by train upto
Coonoor which runs between Ooty and Metupalyam. There are 8 tunnels between Ooty
and Coonoor and 6 between Cunur and Metupallem.
Valley views
The first stop is at Ketti valley view point. Camera charges are to be paid as INR 5 for still
and INR 20 for video to use. The place is very scenic. Telescopic view is also available on
chargeable basis, INR 10 per person. The journey will be through the Army training camp
(The defence services staff colege - Wellington contonment, the Madras regiment centre).
The trip continues through tea estates via Coonoor and the next stop will be at Lambs rock
view point.
This is not the actual rock view point, but the Lamb rock can be seen from here. Free telescope
is available to see distant places free of cost. The journey is through estates with huge tea plantation.
This place is a shopping place. Various tribal collections are available which include,
Nilgiri pain oils, Spices, cosmetic and Garam masala items.
Various tastes of tea are available which include, Masala tea, Chocolate tea, Ginger tea
and lemon tea.
Travellers will then reach (around 2.15pm) a place where they can see valleys called, Lambs
rock view, Dolphin nose, Black thunder water falls and Bhavani dam. This place is 12Kms from
Coonoor. This place is gorgeous and very dangerous as there are no barricades at the edges.
Take care of kids and avoid them reaching the edges. These places are also called suicide points.
Dolphin nose is the farthest one to see. Vehicles cannot reach these places as there is no
road available. People have to walk 500mts to reach these valley view points. No fee is to be
paid to anybody here and usage of cameras is free. Agents will collect INR 20 per head as they
act as guide in these areas.
Highest peak in South India
From Dolphin nose, people will be travelling towards Doddabetta after lunch break at Coonoor.
The journey is again through thick forest with valleys. The distance between Coonoor and Dodda
Betta is 27Kms. Visitors will be reaching this place around 4.00pm. From here one can see the
vast landscape of valleys and boundaries of Tamilnadu and Karnataka States. Entry fee is INR 5 per
person and cameras are allowed for free.
30 to 45 minutes time is available here for tourists. People will then travel towards
Ooty which is only 8Kms from here. Travellers who wish to see Botanical garden, will be
dropped in the spot and will be given one hour time to visit. People travelling towards
other states will be dropped to their respective pickup points.
The best season for visiting these places is during April to June and September to October end.
The sky will be clear in these seasons and cold is felt less at Ooty. People can travel by
train upto Coonoor asking their vehicle to reach Coonoor railway station and pick them up here to
experience both road and train journey.
