Ooty Botanical Garden

Ooty Botanical garden
Government of Tamil Nadu, department of Horticulture maintains this botanical garden. This is a must visit place if you are at Ooty. Located within the city limit this garden started on 1848 A.D.  Average rain fall here is 140 cm.

Maximum temperature goes upto 28 degree centigrade. Minimum temperature falls upto 0 degree centigrade in winter. This garden covers an area of 22 Ha and is located at a height of 2250 meters of MSL. There is a beautiful green lawn and there are trees collected from different parts of the world. There is a Italian garden and Lilly pond with color full flowers. Ooty botanical gardenThis garden is home to several rare species of trees such as the cork tree and this one is only one in of its kind in India. There is one monkey puzzle tree ( because monkey can't climb it ) and a paper bark tree. There is also a fossil tree trunk displayed which is from 20 million years old. Trees carried by rivers and deposited in inland lakes were transformed with replacement of the woody mater by silica to give rise to fossil tree trunk.

Heritage gate building
This historical building constructed as plant conservatory in 1959 is popularly known as gate building. This building is used for selling ornamental plants and seeds from 1912. This building has been renovated and to present an aesthetic during the centenary flower festival in 1995.
