Hassan
Hassan is about 190Kms to the west of Bangalore. National Highway NH48 connects Hassan and Bangalore. This highway runs from Bangalore to Mangalore. Hassan district is famous for temples built during Hoysala period. The district was founded by a Chola officer called Bukkanna Nayaka during 11th Century and got established during 12th century. The Hasanamba temple of Goddess Hasanamma was constructed during Sanjeeva Krishnappa Nayaka period which is a structure of post Vijayanagar period. This temple is opened only once in a year for the period of one week.
The important visiting places in Hassan district start with Belur, 35Kms in the North direction to Hassan is famous for Chennakesava temple built during the period of the king Vishnuvardhana. Nearer to Chennakesava temple there is Veeranarayana temple. Halebeedu is nearer to Belur and 31 Kms from Hassan (can be reached from Belur) to the North direction (West direction from Belur). The Hoysaleswara temple in Halebid displays the great Hoysala sculptures and architecture. The archaeological Museum in the temple premises can be seen.

Someshwara and Narasimha Swamy temple at Nuggihalli located at a distance of 35Kms. Dancing Lakshmi can be seen here.
Vishnu and Shiva temples at Mosale are constructed side by side. Mosale is situated at a distance of 15Kms. Natya (dancing) and Tandava Vishnu can be seen here.
Lakshmi Narasimha temple at Javagal (40Kms from Hassan) has Keshava and Gopala cells also. Ganapati and Mahishasura figures als can be seen.
Lakshmi Devi temple is situated at Doddagaddavalli, 20Kms from Hassan. There are other three cells in the temple comprising Bhuthanatha, Vishnu and Kali. This place is also called Abhinava Kollapura.
Few more Hoysala architecture temples can be seen at Arasikere, Koravangala and Manjarabad which are all nearer to Hassan Head Quarters.
Shravanabelagola is a Jain Pilgrim centre. This place is 50 Kms South-East from Hassan. The 1,000 year old 17metre tall monolithic statue of the Jain sage Gommateswara (Bahubali) stands on top of Indragiri hill. Mahamastakabhisheka is done here for once in 12 years. There are 43 images of Tirthankaras and several Jain bastis on the hill. Places like Chandragiri hill, Bhandari Basti and Jain Math can be seen here.
Nearer to Shravanabelagola (20Kms away), there is one more place called Kambadahalli which has importance for Jains. 17Mtr Brahmadeva Pillar with the figure of Brahma and at Panchakuta Basadi, Jaina Tirthankara figures can be seen.
Gorur dam constructed across the river Hemavathi is one more picnic spot which can be visited. The dam is located towards west, 15kms nearer to Hassan.
