Guruvayoor temple of Lord Krishna

Guruvayoor Temple
This is one of the popular pilgrim places for Hindus.
Camera , Mobile Phone and other electronic items are not allowed inside the temple complex. Counters are there at the entrance to keep them safely. There is a pond known as Rudratheertham located by the side of the temple. Devotees take bath here before proceeding for Darshana into the temple.

There is a Queue system to have Darshana of the God. However you can visit outer ring of the complex without going for the Queue and still have the Darshana from a distance.

Prasad Counter

Inside the temple complex there is a Prasad distribution counter. You can take token by paying and collect Prasad. The most popular Prasad of Guruvayoor temple is Payasam ( semi liquid sweet). If you don’t have container then Plastic container is available at counter with leak proof cap for carrying.

Where to Stay

There are plenty of hotels available surrounding the temple. Most of them provide good accommodation at a reasonable price. Near the main entrance temple authority maintains bathing room and toilets marked for ladies and gents separately.

Kerala Tourism Development Corporation ( KTDC ) have a hotel just before the main entrance of the temple.

Dress code to enter inside temple

There is no restriction for Ladies but gents are not allowed to enter with Paint. You have to wear Mundu similar to Dhoti or traditional Lungi. Men are not allowed to cover your chest so while entering you have to remove your shirt or jacket and can keep them on your shoulder.

Usually ladies cover their head in northern Indian temples but in Kerala ladies should not cover their head with Dupatta or by any other cloth.

If you don’t have Dhoti ( Mundu in Malayalam) to wear then you can take on rent by paying Rs 20/- . As most of the devotees comes here with Dhoti so few shops are there at main entrance who give Dhoti on returnable basis. You may have to inquire and find out the shop. You can leave your footwear in the same shop also.

Anakotta elephant sanctuary ( Punnathur Kotta )

Elephant at Anakotta Guruvayoor temple maintains several elephants and they are kept at Anakotta located at a distance of 3 KM from the temple. You can see many elephants kept inside this complex. Signboards are there to warn visitors not to go close to the elephants and walk in the main road path only. There is a Lord Shiva temple at the centre.

It will take 15 minutes to visit the elephant complex.

Guruvayoor town is located at a distance of 100 KM from Cochin ( south side ) , Calicut is 100 KM, 180 KM from Kalpetta ( Wayanad).

Nearest Airport is Cochin ( International & Domestic terminal ) & Calicut

There is a railway station 3 KM from the temple. However main railway station is Thrissur ( 25 KM ) and Cochin.

KSRTC bus stand is near the temple.
