Country boat Backwater journey at Kerala

After four hour journey by big houseboat in a river, in the second part of our journey in backwaters of Kerala we reached another jetty after traveling 15 minutes by road. This time it was a small boat of 25 feet long and 8 feet width. This boat also like big houseboat was made from hardwood Anjali. The country boat like many common boats of rural India was a non-mechanized open canoe boat. The boat was rowed by two villagers.

This time the width of waterway was less and was varying from 10 feet to 20 feet maximum. So you can understand boats can't take U turn inside this ( not required also for a non-mechanized boats ) and bit congested for two boats to cross each other. Some places creepers and branches of trees ( of the sides ) were hanging over the boat. We were passing through villages and gardens. Water was not very deep so we found kids swimming and enjoying the hot summer afternoon. This backwater serves many cleaning and bathing purposes of the houses located at the side.

Finally we reached a coconut garden. Fresh coconut water was served to all the tourist. We returned in the same canal to our jetty where our vehicle was waiting for us for our return journey to Cochin.
