Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi Uttarakshi is a small but beautiful town located by the side of river Bhagirathi at a height of 1158 meters. This place is famous as a get way to Gangotri, one of the Char Dhams of Hindu religious places. This place is also famous for different trek routs and used as base camp. This small town has all facilities like hospital, bank, hotels, restaurants etc. All facilities are available through out the year. Activates goes up during the peak two months May & June during Chardham yatra. This is a preferred destination for taking a night rest before staring the Gangotri journey next day morning.

Distance From Uttarkashi to

Distance from Haridwar by road using NH 94 is 200 KM. The distance has gone up because of lake formation on Bhagirathi river due to Tehri dam. We left Haridwar at 9.00 AM and reached Uttarkashi just before dark around 5.00 PM.
Nearest railway station is Rishikesh 150 KM
Distance of Gangotri is 98 KM by road, it will take 5 hours on hill road
Srinagar is 130 KM from Uttarkashi and will take 5 hours for cars , small vehicles etc.


Rudraprayag distance is 190 KM and it will take 8 hours by road including breaks for breakfast, lunch & tea. You can take your lunch at Srinagar, a good town with all types of facilities available

At Uttarkashi you will get all mobile signals but once you are out of this town only BSNL will work. At Gangotri BSNL tower is there. At Uttarkashi Reliance signal is there so you can use internet by using Reliance USB modem. In the town there are many browsing centers with high speed internet connections.

There are many hydro electric projects located around the hills of Uttarkashi, so you can find many offices and workshops at the town.

Vishwanath temple is one of the famous temple located by the side of the river at Uttarkashi. There are many other temples, monuments , ashrams & dharamsalas located in and around the town.

Nehru Institute of Mountaineering

This institute offers basic & advance courses on mountaineering. Established in the year 1965 this is an autonomous body and named after the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. For more details about this institute visit its website Nehru Institute of Mountaineering
