Bhimtal
Big and deep this lake is located at a distance of 22 KM from Nainital. Bhimtal lake is of 1701 meter length, 451 meter width and depth of 18 meters. It is spread across 63.25 hectares of area. Boating facility is available in this lake. Boat charges is Rs 200/- . In this boat one family of 4 members can visit. This will take nearly 30 minutes to cover the lake and return. There is another boat ride for Rs 100/- to take you to aquarium ( both ways ). Enter fee for Aquarium is to be purchased separately.
The Aquarium is in an island and only way to reach is by boat. Earlier this was a restaurant and now it is converted to an aquarium. The entry fee is Rs 60/- per adults and Rs 30/- for children. Cameras are allowed without any extra charges. To reach this aquarium both way boat charges is Rs 100/- . You can spend 20 to 30 minutes inside the aquarium. This is not so exclusive aquarium but good to enjoy the beauty of surrounding from an island within the Bhimtal lake.
Hotels and resorts at Bhimtal
There are hotels and resorts available near the lake. Most of the resorts have Lake view at one side. Tourist visit Bhimtal as a part of half day lake tour from Nainital or you can stay for one or two days here and visit Nainital in day time.
In dry seasons water discharged from this lake is supplied to Kathgodam and Haldwani to fulfill the drinking water shortage.
