Srinagar sightseeing

Srinagar Dal Lake
Srinagar is centre point of Kashmir valley tourism. Tourists arrive at Srinagar by Air or by road and then visit various palaces. You can plan for three day minimum stay here and out of which one day you can spend on visiting various local tourist spots and if time permits go for two hour Shikara ride in Dal lake. However you can go for Shikara ride any other day also.

Main tourist activities are located around Dal Lake and the surrounding road.

Nishat Bagh Srinagar

Nishat Garden near Dal Lake By the side of Dal lake this garden is measured 350.0 x 556.5 meter is spread in an area of 20.0 Ha. This garden was conceived in 12 majestic tabakats (terraces), representing 12 signs of zodiac. Entry fee is 10/- per head and Rs 5 for kids. No extra fee for camera. It will take one hour to visit this garden. There are small waterfalls designed in Moghal style. As you go up you will see verity of flowers and water flowing from upper floors. View of Dal Lake is beautiful here. There is a parking place in front of the garden and it remains full in tourist seasons.

Pari Mahal

This ancient monument over a hill is well preserved and is visible from Dal Lake area. This is located near Cheshma Shahi garden. It was constructed by Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of emperor Shah Jahan. There is beautiful garden in front of it.

Chashma Shahi

This is a Mughal garden with natural spring of water enclosed in a stone pavilion. You can enjoy the view of Dal Lake below and snow-capped mountain peaks at top.

Tulip Garden

Tulip season is March and April, other days this garden remains close. This is also known as Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden. Close to Tulip garden is Botanical garden.

Botanical garden

Botanical Garden at Srinagar This garden is located close to Tulip garden. Boating facility available at a cost of Rs 50 for half hour. Beautiful flower plants and herbal plants are available here. Entry fee is Rs 10 and it is Rs 5 for kids. You can carry your camera and other electronic gadgets inside without any extra fee.

Shankaracharya temple Srinagar

This temple is visible at your right side while entering to Srinagar by road. Sankaracharya temple is located at the top of a hill by the side of Dal lake. You can travel by vechicle 5.5 KM on a hill road to reach the entrance of the temple. Before the climb there will be a checking of the vehicle by security persons. Near the temple also there will be security check of all the devotes. There are 243 steps are there to climb before reaching the main entrance of the temple. From the main enterance there are another 45 steps to climb to have Darshan of Lord Shiva here.

Mobile phones , cameras, or any other type of gadgets are not allowed to carry inside the temple complex. You can leave them in your vehicle.

You can get full view of Srinagar city from here. You can't take photos as you are not allowed to carry camera to main temple complex. However after coming out of the complex you can use your gadgets and on return you can take photos of Dal lake from the top.
Usually it will take 45 minutes to return to your vehicle after Darshan of the Lord Shiva.
Entrance at the hill base is closed around 6 PM.

Lal Chawak.

Clock Tower at Lal Chawak This is the main city center and it the hub of all political activities of Kashimir valley. The famous clock tower or Ghanta Ghar is located here. This is the busy area with old shops selling traditional and modern items. You can get the feeling of Kashmiri culture by staying at this junction. There are some good hotels available here.

This is not a city .This is haven .Never see place like this .I would like go there once more.
