Visakhapatnam to Jagdalpur by Vijayanagaram Koraput road

Vizag  to Jagdalpur road tourist map From Visakhapatnam travel towards North in NH 5 and after travelling nearly 40 KM leave NH 5 and take a left diversion. From this point Vijayanagaram town is 17 KM. At the entrance of Vijayanagaram town Main railway line will be at left side. The road cross the railway line and goes towards Koraput. If you are going towards Balaji road ( all hotels are here ) then take a right turn without crossing the railway line.

Starting from Visakhapatnam early morning you can reach Jagdalpur in evening. By travelling on road you can see many historical and scenic places on the way. You need to adjust your time and plan your journey if you want to reach in same day. Here is a guide to help you in planning your trip to Jagdalpur by road from Visakhapatnam.

Start from Visakhapatnam early morning and drive on NH 5 till Koraput by pass ( 30 KM ), then take left turn to leave NH 5 and move towards Vijayanagaram ( Vizag to Vijayanagaram 47 KM ) If you plan to stay or move around Vijayanagaram read this city guide and hotel details. At Vijayanagaram cross the railway line by over bridge and travel straight towards Gajapathinagaram ( 21 KM ) , Ramabhadrapuram ( 47 Km ).

At Ramabhadrapuram you can take food as few small hotels offering south Indian food is available. From here right side road will take you to Bobbili and then to Rayagada ( Orissa ).

From Ramabhadrapuram travel left towards Salur ( 10 KM ) a small town. You can get food here.

Sunki Ghat road
From Salur after 8 KM , Sunki hills or known as Sunki Ghat starts. Just before the starting of Ghat road there is a restaurant at your left offering good Orissa style food. The Ghat road is of 34 KM long. After 7 KM of climbing the ghat road you will cross AP border and enter into Orissa state. After entering into Orissa you will reach Sunki check post. Just after the ghat road you will start driving in plain road and you will see excellent scenic beauty of hills before Pottangi. To your right will be a green color hill looks like a green carpet cover. Local tribes in these areas produce lot of vegetables and fruits and supply them to nearby areas. You can buy from roadside as they will be waiting for trucks or other vehicles.

After Pottangi and before Semiliguda a right side road will take you to Damanjodi and the Nalco township. From this junction Nalco township entrance gate at Bhejaput is 10 KM. You can visit Nalco township and again join NH 43 ( Vizianagaram - Koraput main road) after 2 KM from Sunabeda. This roundabout will take 21 KM.

You will enter Sunabeda and to your left will HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited). After 18 KM from Sunabeda you will reach Koraput. This is the district headquarter of Koraput district. The main attraction of Koraput is Jagannath temple. This temple will be visible to you before the bus stand. Take a left turn and climb up the small hill to the parking area. Leave Koraput and start towards Jeypore. There is a good restaurant M M Hotel ( Maa Mangala Hotel and restaurant ) available on Jeypore Koraput road.

After 12 KM from Koraput a left side road will take you to Upper Kolab water project. Read more on Upper Kolab project in Jeypore page. The straight and main road will take you to Jeypore. Gandhi Chowk is the main entrance of Jeypore. You can get good hotels and restaurants at Jeypore. You can plan for night halt here if required.

Jeypore to Jagdalpur is 85 KM.

Start from Jeypore and drive 20 KM to reach Borigumma. This is a Junction and from here you have to take a left turn to continue in NH 43 to travel towards Jagdalpur . The straight road is NH 201 will take you to Bhawanipatna 142 KM , Kesinga 174 KM, Bolangir 240 KM, Baragarh 318 KM.

From Borigumma you have to travel left on NH 43 .
From Borigumma Kotpad is 28 KM
From Borigumma Chandili is 41 KM ( Orissa Chhattisgarh border )
From Borigumma Jagdalpur is 62 KM

Move straight towards Jagdalpur on NH 43. At the beginning of Jagdalpur you will get a welcome board with all distance to different location. Take left turn if you are planning to visit Tirathgarh waterfall ( nearby Kutumsar Cave also ) and Chitrakoot waterfall. All modern facilities like hospital , good hotels , restaurants are available at Jagdalpur.

Border Tax

For commercial vehicles you need to pay tax Rs 450 at Orissa border and Rs 350 at Chhattisgarh border.

By train

There is a direct train which starts from Visakhapatnam early morning and passes through Borra caves, Araku valley and reaches Jagdalpur in evening. This is popularly known as KK line (Kothavalasa Kirandul line ) or Araku train
