Rangat

This place is in the middle part of Andaman Islands. Rangat is surrounded by thick dense forest. There are not much site seeing places around Rangat. Tourists visit Rangat mainly to proceed towards Havelock Islands. Weekly twice ship service is available to travel towards Havelock.
Travellers visiting Baratang can make Rangat as their destination to stay and continuing to havelock. It is nearly 3 hours journey from Baratang to Rangat. The journey is through Jarwan reserve. Two times ferry service is needed for transportation. Approximately 30minutes of journey is in the Jarwan tribal reserve. We felt somewhat safer to meet them and talk in this region but it is restricted to do so. People offer eatables to Jarwan tribes though. Taking photographs of Jarwan tribes is abandoned but sometimes if people are fortunate, they can take some snaps on offering some money with prior permission.
After visiting Limestone caves and Mud Volcano at Baratang, tourists can plan to visit Rangat. One can have their lunch at the jetty area and can start their journey towards Rangat at 3.00pm. It is only the journey which is interesting and there is not much visiting places at Rangat. Prior planning is required to proceed towards Havelock as the ship is available only twice in a week. Better to include Rangat visit along with Bagatang if Havelock Island is included in the Andaman trip package.
Good lodge accomodation is available at Rangat. For double cot accomodation the normal charge is INR 400 for NON-AC and INR 600 for AC.
